Starts midnight Sunday

Rafael Nadal came in for support for the Australian Open, which starts at midnight on Sunday, after the top seed was handed an easier-looking draw than second seed and defending champion Roger Federer for the first Grand Slam of the year.

Federer is 2-1 to retain his Melbourne Park singles crown, but Nadal was slashed to 7-2 from 6-1 by Paddy Power and the Spanish second favourite is now best at 9-2.

Former top man Novak Djokovic, who is seeded a lowly 14th for the tournament, is 13-2 clear third favourite having been drawn in Federer's half of the draw. ATP Tour Finals champion Grigor Dimitrov is next in the betting at 10-1 and then it's 16-1 bar the four.

The big market changes in the women's singles happened when Serena Williams pulled out of the tournament last week and world number one Simona Halep is 8-1 joint-favourite along with Elina Svitolina.

Karolina Pliskova is 10-1 then three players - Garbine Muguruza, Caroline Wozniacki and Angelique Kerber - are on 12-1. Maria Sharapova is 14-1 then in a close-looking competition it's 25-1 bar seven.
