Zarina Diyas was a shock 33-1 winner of the WTA Japan Open when it was held in Tokyo last season but the Kazakh performer could have more on her plate in Hiroshima.

Bet365 go 10-1 the field in what is a highly competitive event with Diyas heading the market alongside fourth seed Qiang Wang.

However, neither is gifted with a generous draw and experienced second seed Su-Wei Hsieh could be the one to side with in the bottom half.

The Taiwanese ace is a classy operator who has produced some decent results this season and should ease into things with victory over Polona Hercog in her opener.

Fifth seed Ajla Tomljanovic would be a potential quarter-finalist but her best results have come on a slower surface.

Fellow seeds in the bottom half Wang and Magda Linette are obvious dangers but neither is in scintillating form and their early round opponents are capable of causing a stir.

Hsieh has made the fourth round of the Australian Open and Wimbledon this term and a repeat of those efforts would see her go close.

S-W Hsieh
