Taylor Fritz vs Carlos Alcaraz prediction

Carlos Alcaraz remains firmly on course to become only the fifth man in the open era to win three consecutive Wimbledon titles and the Spanish superstar can ease into another Grand Slam title decider with a commanding victory over Taylor Fritz.

At the age of just 22, Alcaraz secured his fifth Grand Slam title at last month’s French Open and his emphatic 6-2 6-3 6-3 quarter-final victory over Britain’s Cameron Norrie stretched his winning streak on the ATP Tour to 23.

The world number two has won his last 19 matches at Wimbledon and that makes this look a relentless task for Fritz, who is appearing in the semi-final of a Grand Slam for only the second time.

The American finished runner-up to Sinner at last season’s US Open but he was readily outclassed 6-3 6-4 7-5, which means he has lost his last three meetings with the world number one to nil.

Having also been beaten 6-4 6-2 and 6-2 7-5 in his only two encounters with Alcaraz, the signs are that Fritz is still a long way below the levels required to compete with the big two despite being the world number four.

The American has had a superb grass-court season, winning titles in Stuttgart and Eastbourne in the build-up to Wimbledon, but winning a Grand Slam crown may ultimately prove beyond him.

Fritz has served superbly throughout this season’s summer showpiece but he still required five sets to get past Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard and Gabriel Diallo in the opening two rounds.

Alejandro Davidovich Fokina and Karen Khachanov were also able to take a set off the American and his serve will be under even greater scrutiny against Alcaraz as he will be aware that quick holds are the only way for him to stay competitive.

Fritz is capable of winning a set, especially if Alcaraz goes through his occasional lapse in concentration, and the second seed has conceded a set in three of his five tournament wins.

But you ultimately need something more than a strong serve and baseline stability to halt a player of the Spaniard’s stature and he is a born winner who tends to come truly alive at this stage of major competitions.
