Second round starts 10am Wednesday

Bernarda Pera should be fresh and raring to go in Lausanne after early exits in the French Open and Wimbledon and the American could cause problems for Caroline Garcia in the last 16 of the Swiss clay event.

Garcia, seeded second this week, is adept at posting victories in International class events such as this, but that is counter-balanced by the fact that Pera is one of the more assertive performers on the WTA Tour.

The Croatia-born world number 85 - Pera looks a top-20 player in the making - lost in the opening rounds of the French Open, to Kateryna Kozlova, and Wimbledon, to Maria Sakkari, but lost no caste in those defeats to decent opponents.

Pera opened well in Lausanne with a 6-0 6-3 mauling of Giulia Gatto-Monticone, who performed with credit at Wimbledon, and while Garcia also looked on top of her game in a 6-2 6-3 triumph over Antonia Lottner, this could be tougher for the Frenchwoman.

Italian 17-year-old Jannik Sinner has made an impressive start to his ATP Tour career and he could see support for his Croatia Open second-round clash with Aljaz Bedene in Umag, from where Amazon Prime are showing daily live action from 3.30pm.
