Day seven preview

Sunday marks the beginning of the last-16 action at the US Open with the likes of Daniil Medvedev and Ons Jabeur on court in New York.

Men's top seed Medvedev features in the match of the day against fiery Australian Nick Kyrgios, while Alejandro Davidovich Fokina and Matteo Berrettini could also be tough to separate.

In the women's tournament Ajla Tomljanovic, conqueror of Serena Williams, takes on the impressive Liudmila Samsonova, while Coco Gauff and Ons Jabeur are among the others taking to the court.

Daniil Medvedev v Nick Kyrgios

Daniil Medvedev is looking to become the first player to win successive US Open titles since Roger Federer won five on the spin between 2004 and 2008 and the 26-year-old has made a solid start in New York.

Medvedev has won all three of his matches against Stefan Kozlov, Arthur Rinderknech and Wu Yibing in straight sets and could take some stopping on his preferred hard courts.

But Nick Kyrgios also looks like a man on a mission right now, having won the Citi Open in Washington DC before breezing through the first three rounds at Flushing Meadows to show his run to the Wimbledon final was no fluke.

Kyrgios leads the head-to-head 3-1 but Medvedev won their only Grand Slam meeting to date and can pip the Australian, who is fancied to pick up a set.

Liudmila Samsonova v Ajla Tomljanovic

Ajla Tomljanovic ended Serena Williams' hopes of a fairytale run in New York with victory over the American on Friday but that was a draining battle and she could struggle against Liudmila Samsonova.

Samsonova warmed up for the US Open by landing the WTA Cleveland title in August, winning all five of her matches in straight sets, and dropped only two sets on her way to the women's title in Washington DC beforehand.

They are two fine tournament successes and given that Samsonova has won the game count 12-6, 13-9 and 12-4 in her three matches in New York, she is worth a bet at -2.5 on the games handicap against Tomljanovic.

Ons Jabeur v Veronika Kudermetova

Ons Jabeur reached her maiden Grand Slam final at Wimbledon earlier this year but she is a less accomplished player on hard courts and this is the first time she has ever reached the fourth round of the US Open.

This is also uncharted territory for Veronika Kudermetova but one might not think that given how confidently she dismantled third-round opponent Dalma Galfi, winning 6-2 6-0 in only 46 minutes.

Kudermetova won 100 per cent of her first-serve points in that contest, looks in high spirits at present and is worth a bet to knock out Jabeur.
