Final preview

Stefanos Tsitsipas stunned world number one Daniil Medvedev in three sets to make the Cincinnati final and the Greek star should finish the job with victory over resurgent Croatian Borna Coric.

Tsitsipas is going to be at the top of the men’s game for a very long time, due to being one of a handful of players that can be competitive on every surface and the 24-year-old looks well poised to claim a tenth career title.

The world number seven has also overcome home favourite John Isner on his way to this title decider in Ohio and although Coric has claimed some notable scalps this week, this is unfamiliar territory for him.

Wins over Rafael Nadal, Felix Auger-Aliassime and Cameron Norrie show Coric can’t be dismissed lightly but the former world number 12 is without silverware since 2018, so there is added pressure on this one.

Tsitsipas has dropped sets in seven of his last ten hard-court encounters, however, so the value may be with the in-form Croatian going the distance.

The women’s final sees Petra Kvitova take on Caroline Garcia and the bookmakers are struggling to separate the pair.

But Garcia is operating at the peak of her powers, having lost only four of her last 29 matches, and looks the player to side with.

The former world number four has already won titles in Bad Homburg and Warsaw this year and appears to have had the tougher route to the final.

Garcia has recorded wins over Maria Sakkari, Elise Merterns, Jessica Pegula and, latterly, Aryna Sabalenka, suggesting she should have what is required to take care of Kvitova.
