Adrian Mannarino made light work of Borna Coric in the last 32 of the Rogers Cup in Montreal, but the Frenchman may find Fabio Fognini a tougher nut to crack.

Mannarino thrashed Coric, who clearly is not yet back to his best after injury issues, 6-2 6-1 to set up a date with Fognini.

But the Italian ace, Monte Carlo Masters champion in April, did a tidy job of defeating the impressive Tommy Paul 7-6 6-3 and that form may be just as good if not better than Mannarino's.

Karen Khachanov posted a first career win over Stan Wawrinka when seeing off the Swiss ace 6-4 6-7 6-2, but the Russian could find Felix Auger-Aliassime a trickier proposition.

Auger-Aliassime, one of Canada's great hopes along with Bianca Andreescu, doesn't look to be performing at his pinnacle in his home city. But he's still in there battling and his displays could soon improve.

In the WTA singles in Toronto, Belinda Bencic can be considered against Elina Svitolina, who she pipped in the Dubai semi-finals in February.
