Quarter-final preview

Borna Coric has enjoyed a terrific week in Cincinnati as he bids to get his promising career back on track but the Croat is likely to see his title bid cut short by Felix Auger-Aliassime.

Coric, ranked 152nd in the world and playing with a protected ranking this week, has been edging back to full fitness following shoulder surgery but he caught fire at the Western & Southern Open when claiming the notable scalp of Rafael Nadal in round two.

The 25-year-old backed up that triumph by seeing off Roberto Bautista Agut in straight sets but now faces a quarter-final tie against a high-class young opponent who possesses more weapons.

Canadian starlet Auger-Aliassime was made to battle in his third-round match, saving two match points before defeating Jannik Sinner 2-6 7-6 6-1, and he's likely to be highly motivated as he targets a second ATP World Tour title.

Coric's excellent defence is likely to keep this clash competitive but FAA won their only previous hard-court meeting in 2019 and he's a much more experienced player three years on.

In the women's draw, Caroline Garcia can carry on her fine run by seeing off American's Jessica Pegula in the evening session.

Garcia has won ten of her last 11 matches, emerging from a long-term slump which saw her drop outside the WTA's top 75 in May, and she's a huge danger to all if finding the form which once took her as high as fourth in the world rankings.

Pegula's consistency helped her earn victory over Emma Raducanu in a bruising last-16 contest but the American has won just one career title and often struggles as tournaments reach the business end.

Garcia defeated her in straight sets when they last met in Sydney in January and there is no doubt that the Frenchwoman is in a much more confident mood right now.
