Tuesday's French Open predictions
Carlos Alcaraz is a heavy 1-5 favourite to reach the French Open final at the quarter-final stage, which begins at Roland Garros on Tuesday, but it hasn’t been entirely smooth sailing for the defending men’s champion.
The Spaniard has been pushed to four sets in his last three French Open matches, and quarter-final opponent Tommy Paul could pose a tricky test on day ten in Paris.
On the women’s side, top seed Aryna Sabalenka and four-time champion Iga Swiatek, who are on course to meet in a blockbuster semi-final, are in action against Qinwen Zheng and Elina Svitolina.
Tommy Paul vs Carlos Alcaraz predictions
Carlos Alcaraz is the man to beat at Roland Garros, but he hasn’t been at his imperious best in his last three outings, dropping sets in wins over Fabian Marozsan, Damir Dzumhur, and Ben Shelton.
When he clicks into gear, Alcaraz is near unstoppable, and over a best-of-five-set format, it’s tough to see Tommy Paul pulling off an upset.
However, Paul has beaten Alcaraz twice before, and if the defending champion's level dips as it has in recent matches, the American could at least nick a set.
Lorenzo Musetti vs Frances Tiafoe predictions
Lorenzo Musetti’s fine clay-court season continued with a fourth-round victory over Holger Rune, and he looks poised to reach the semi-finals at the expense of Frances Tiafoe.
Tiafoe leads their head-to-head series 4-3, but Musetti has climbed to a career-high world number seven and is playing the best tennis of his life.
Tiafoe, who has posted straight-sets victories over Roman Safiullin, Pablo Carreno Busta, Sebastian Korda, and Daniel Altmaier, should make Musetti work for the win.
Iga Swiatek's French Open Final Wins
Year | Opponent | Result |
2020 | Sofia Kenin | 6-4 6-1 |
2022 | Coco Gauff | 6-1 6-3 |
2023 | Karolina Muchova | 6-2 5-7 6-4 |
2024 | Jasmine Paolini | 6-2 6-1 |
Elina Svitolina vs Iga Swiatek predictions
Iga Swiatek looked all at sea in the first half of her fourth-round match against Elena Rybakina, but her brilliant comeback from 1-6 0-2 down showed why she’s always dangerous in Paris.
While Rybakina’s power took Swiatek out of her comfort zone, the Pole turned the match around with authority and now faces a different challenge in Ukrainian battler Elina Svitolina.
Swiatek has won three of their four meetings and her only defeat came on grass, which is comfortably her weakest surface.
Boosted by that fourth-round triumph, she should fancy her chances of reaching the semis.
Aryna Sabalenka vs Qinwen Zheng predictions
Aryna Sabalenka looked unstoppable in the fourth round, dispatching Amanda Anisimova 7-5 6-3, and the world number one should prove too strong for Qinwen Zheng.
Zheng, last year’s Olympic champion at Roland Garros, will be buoyed by her recent win over Sabalenka in Rome, having lost their first six clashes.
However, Sabalenka has dominated their three previous Slam encounters and can show her ruthless streak again on the big stage.
A Swiatek-Sabalenka double at 4-5 looks a smart way to profit from the women’s draw.
