Jannik Sinner vs Novak Djokovic prediction
Jannik Sinner has enjoyed an easy run to reach his second French Open semi-final but it would be dangerous to assume that the world number one will just swat aside the challenge of 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic.
The Italian is appearing in only his second tournament since winning the Australian Open in January due to a three-month suspension and has barely put a foot wrong, recording five straight-set successes all of which were wrapped up inside two hours and 20 minutes.
However, world number 15 Andrey Rublev is the only seed he has had to contend with and Djokovic appears to be producing some of the best tennis that he has for a long time.
Now 38, Djokovic is evidently not the force of old, but his title success in Geneva in the build up to Paris appears to have sparked something for him.
The super Serb started his Parisian adventure with four 3-0 victories and took his winning streak to nine matches with a come-from-behind success over last season’s runner-up Alexander Zverev in the quarter-final.
Djokovic dropped serve in the opening game against Zverev, which culminated in losing the opening set 6-4, but the German forced only two break-point opportunities from that point on.
Jannik Sinner vs Novak Djokovic - 2025 French Open results
| Round | Jannik Sinner | Novak Djokovic |
| First | Arthur Rinderknech (6-4 6-3 7-5) | Mackenzie McDonald (6-3 6-3 6-3) |
| Second | Richard Gasquet (6-3 6-0 6-4) | Corentin Moutet (6-3 6-2 7-6) |
| Third | Jiri Lehecka (6-0 6-1 6-2) | Filip Misolic (6-3 6-4 6-2) |
| Fourth | Andrey Rublev (6-1 6-3 6-4) | Cameron Norrie (6-2 6-3 6-2) |
| Quarter-finals | Alexander Bublik (6-1 7-5 6-0) | Alexander Zverev (4-6 6-3 6-2 6-4) |
That shows just how well Djokovic is serving and, although only three of his 24 Grand Slam titles have come at Roland Garros, it is possible that at this stage of his career the slower surface now suits him as well as any.
Interestingly, this illustrious duo have met eight times on the ATP Tour and they have shared the spoils equally with four wins apiece.
Some of those meetings clearly took place before Sinner hit his peak, but Djokovic has failed to win a set in only one of those eight meetings with the Italian.
On that one occasion, which came in the final in Shanghai in October last year, Sinner needed a first-set tiebreak before running out a 7-6 6-3 victor and this latest encounter is unlikely to be one-way traffic.
Djokovic disrupted Zverev's baseline control and rally rhythm, using a variety of drop shots and net plays to impose himself, and similar tactics could serve him well against Sinner.
The Italian’s intensity and raw power should eventually wear Djokovic down, but it may take four or even five sets before he takes complete control in his pursuit of a maiden French Open final.
