Winning machine Ashleigh Barty has the measure of Keys

Djokovic v A Zverev

Novak Djokovic has done little wrong on the way to reaching the French Open quarter-finals, but the world number one could face a tougher test of his title credentials against Alexander Zverev, who is playing some of the best tennis of his career at Roland Garros this year.

The Wimbledon, US and Australian Open champion has posted three straight-sets wins in Paris in recent days and the manner of his latest 6-3 6-2 6-2 triumph over Jan-Lennard Struff was particularly impressive.

However, while Struff has yet to win a main-tour title, Zverev defeated Djokovic in the Rome Masters final in 2017 and went on to win the ATP Finals crown in London last season.

This is his second appearance in the French Open quarter-finals and the penny may be dropping with the German in the majors.

Zverev is a shade of odds-on to win at least a set and that is difficult to quibble with.

Recommendation
A Zverev to win at least a set

Thiem v Khachanov

Karen Khachanov was a deserving winner against Juan Martin del Potro, but the Russian may do well to continue in winning form against Dominic Thiem.

Fourth seed Thiem brought his A-game to the party when demolishing in-form Gael Monfils 6-4 6-4 6-2 in round four, but that is not the first time the Austrian ace has stepped things up when the occasion demands it.

Khachanov possesses greater court power than Thiem and because of that, and the fact that he defeated Thiem on the way to lifting the Paris Masters title last year, the tenth seed is respected.

However, Thiem is one of the world’s best clay-courters and it would not be a surprise to see the Russian’s unforced errors count rise in this clash.

Recommendation
D Thiem -1.5 sets

Keys v Barty

Madison Keys, who made the semi-finals of the French Open last year, was surprised when she initially discovered that she was one of the world’s better players on clay, but the American will do well to deny the increasingly impressive Ashleigh Barty a place in the last four at Roland Garros this season.

Barty, as keen as they come, is hard to fault on any terrain and is becoming a winning machine. Clay may actually be her weakest surface but that may not stop her going all the way in Paris, whether this year or in future.

Keys defeated the Queenslander 6-3 6-2 at Roland Garros two years ago, but Barty has since beaten the 14th seed 6-4 6-1 in a Fed Cup clash in the USA and should have enough to add to that triumph.

Recommendation
A Barty

Halep v Anisimova

Defending champion Simona Halep’s game may be on the up after a slow start in Paris, but while she dropped just one game against Iga Swiatek in the last 16, things could be a lot closer in her quarter-final clash with Amanda Anisimova.

American 17-year-old Anisimova looks a potential star on any terrain and she may well possess greater self-belief than Swiatek.

A three-set match can definitely be considered at 9-4 with Hills, but instead it may be worth chancing that one of the first two sets contested goes to a tiebreak.

Betfair and Paddy Power were briefly 9-2 about that happening, but 4-1 still looks good value.

Recommendation
Tiebreak in match
1pt 4-1 Betfair, Paddy Power
