John Isner is never an easy man to beat when armed with home advantage and the big-serving American promises to make life tough for his second-round opponent in Cincinnati, Hubert Hurkacz.

At 37 Isner’s best days are evidently behind him, but the giant from North Carolina continues to hold his form well and as recently as April was competing for silverware in a final in Houston.

In fact, 14 of Isner’s 16 career titles have come in the States and he also leads Hurkacz 2-0 in their personal series, with both victories also being recorded in his homeland.

But, with the Pole also in fine fettle following last week’s runner-up effort in Montreal, the best bet in this encounter could be taking the contest to feature three sets.

Interestingly, both players' last five matches have gone to a deciding set and their Cincinnati clash looks likely to follow suit.

In the women’s competition, there could be value in siding with Ajla Tomljanovic to overcome Paula Badosa.

Badosa retired when a set down to Yulia Putintseva in her first-round clash in Montreal last week, so has plenty to prove against a player who has really struck some consistency.

Tomljanovic, who was a quarter-finalist at Wimbledon, has won 11 of her last 14 matches, which includes overcoming three talented performers in Cincinnati.

The seasoned Australian got the better of qualifiers Clara Tauson and Nuria Parrizas-Diaz before seeing off American Taylor Townsend in three sets in her latest outing.
