Betting preview

Andy Murray has beaten US Open semi-finalist Matteo Berrettini and fellow Brit Cameron Norrie at the ATP China Open this week but the returning star faces arguably the toughest test since his comeback when he takes on Dominic Thiem for a place in Beijing semi-finals.

World number five Thiem was as big as 4-7 when betting opened for the quarter-final clash but he has been backed into no bigger than 4-9 while Murray has drifted from 11-8 to 9-5.

The 32-year-old Scot, who retired from tennis at the Australian Open before returning following hip resurfacing surgery, is aiming to reach a first ATP World Tour final since the Dubai Championships in March 2017 when he faces Thiem at 7.30am UK & Ireland time.

In the women's draw, Daria Kasatkina has been on a rotten run of form but she finally looks to be finding her game again and may prove overpriced against defending WTA China Open champion Caroline Wozniacki (9.30am start).

The 22-year-old Russian is coming towards the end of a terrible year but she has won three consecutive matches for the first time this season in Beijing, defeating Shuai Peng, Aryna Sabalenka and Ekaterina Alexandrova to make the last eight.

Wozniacki has played well to dismiss Lauren Davis, Christina McHale and Katerina Siniakova in the Chinese capital but Kasatkina, who was ranked in the world's top ten last year but has dropped to 45th, is a tougher test if she's back to somewhere near her best.

Kasatkina has beaten Wozniacki in straight sets in each of their last three meetings and it would be no great surprise if the underdog continues her resurgence.
