ATP Montpellier

Starts 9am Monday
Surface Indoor Hard

Two-time winner Gael Monfils is top seed and joint-favourite to claim another Open Sud de France title this week, but a rising French star could take top billing in Montpellier.

Ugo Humbert has risen to a career-high 43rd in the world after winning his maiden ATP title at the ASB Classic in Auckland in January, He beat four top-50 players including compatriot Benoit Paire in the final and the reopposing Denis Shapovalov on his way to the title.

In the first round of the Australian Open, Humbert was beaten in four sets by John Millman, who then took Roger Federer to five sets, so he should be well-rested to double his title haul.

The eighth seed is in the tougher half of the draw with an all-French last-16 date against Gilles Simon or three-time Montpellier victor Richard Gasquet lying in wait should he make it past Spaniard Feliciano Lopez in his opening contest.

The confidence he will have gained from winning his first tournament in Auckland should mean he will approach those potential matches with nothing to fear.

At 33-1 he could be worth an each-way punt to double his tour title tally in quick time.

Cordoba Open

Starts 1pm Monday
Surface Outdoor Clay

All five of Guido Pella’s ATP Tour finals have come on clay so the Argentinian will no doubt be pleased to return to the surface at the Cordoba Open.

The world number 25 also won 12 and lost only two of 14 Challenger finals on the surface, which included a victory over compatriot and Cordoba top seed Diego Schwartzman in 2015.

Schwartzman appears to have a tougher route to the final and Pella is much preferred to win on home soil.

Maharashtra Open

Starts 10am Monday, live on Amazon Prime
Surface Outdoor Hard

Benoit Paire was beaten by Montpellier selection Ugo Humbert in the final of last month’s Auckland Classic but can make amends in Pune.

The Frenchman is by far the highest-ranked player on show in India and he should make that class tell.

At world number 21 he is 48 places above second seed Ricardas Berankis and has an extremely kind run to the quarters with a first-round bye and a last-16 date against a qualifier.

The Frenchman looks a worthy favourite.
