ATP Monte Carlo Masters: first-round betting tips & TV details

Canadian tennis is in a healthy position following the emergence of Felix Auger-Aliassime, Denis Shapovalov and WTA star Bianca Andreescu and all three have the potential to go close to title glory on European clay this season.

Shapovalov, who turns 20 on Monday, has led the Canadian charge over the last two years and arrives at the ATP Monte Carlo Masters having climbed to a career-high 20th in the world rankings.

He takes on Jan-Lennard Struff in the opening round and is worth a bet following a series of encouraging displays this season which culminated in a semi-final appearance at the Miami Open.

While he was readily dismissed by Roger Federer in the last four in Florida, there is a feeling that Shapovalov is starting to come of age and he showed battling qualities in the Sunshine State to see off Dan Evans, Andrey Rublev, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Frances Tiafoe which will hold him in good stead throughout the clay campaign.

Shapovalov is no stranger to success on clay, having reached the semi-finals of the Madrid Masters last season, and he looks an improved player this term.

Struff, meanwhile, has done little of note this year - bar beating his German compatriot Alexander Zverev at Indian Wells - and the talented Canadian is likely to have his measure.
