ATP Miami Open predictions

Having lifted his first trophy at an ATP Masters event at Indian Wells on Sunday, British number one Jack Draper will have his eyes set on securing the Sunshine Double in Miami and he has landed in the right half of the draw to do so.

That is because tournament favourite Carlos Alcaraz, champion in 2022, six-time winner Novak Djokovic and 2023 hero Daniil Medvedev are all competing in the bottom half, giving Draper among others every chance of a deep run.

With top seed Alexander Zverev seriously struggling for form - the German has lost four of his eight matches since making the Australian Open final - Draper looks the player to beat in the top half.

The Briton defeated Taylor Fritz, Ben Shelton, Alcaraz and Holger Rune on his way to Indian Wells silverware and that came on the back of a runner-up effort in Doha, showing some new-found consistency.

When fit and healthy Draper has the potential to challenge for Grand Slam titles and a first-round bye followed by an encounter with either Roberto Bautista Agut or Jakub Mensik should provide him with ample recovery time.

A fourth-round showdown with Rune, whom he brushed aside 6-2 6-2 in that Indian Wells title-decider, looks his toughest test before a potential quarter-final encounter with an out-of-sorts Zverev.

However, the top seed suffered a first-round exit to Tallon Griekspoor in California last time out and is clearly underwhelmed by his current performance level.

Providing he handles the quick turnaround, Draper can capitalise on what appears to be an obvious draw bias by making back-to-back Masters finals.

At a bigger price, also housed in a wide-open top half, Andrey Rublev has to make an appeal given his Doha title success has been given a timely boost by Draper’s exploits.

The Russian has suffered first-round losses in Dubai and Indian Wells since downing Draper in the Qatar final, but he is a two-time Masters winner as well as a four-time runner-up.

Matteo Berrettini, Alex De Minaur, Fritz and Shelton are the potential dangers before the semi-final but that isn’t as daunting enough for him to be on offer at such a generous price given his big-tournament mentality.
