Aliaksandra Sasnovich has been worrying big-name opponents for some time now and the Belarusian is threatening a sizeable breakthough on the WTA Tour.

Last week’s Wuhan champion Aryna Sabalenka, a compatriot of Sasnovich, has hit the tour like a sledgehammer. Sasnovich, in contrast, is slowly but surely building confidence as regards how best to deal with her rivals – but she’s getting there.

Sasnovich’s reward for her 6-3 6-1 victory over Mihaela Buzarnescu is a date early on Wednesday morning with recent Tokyo heroine Karolina Pliskova.

That’s a big step up in class, especially considering Buzarnescu was only just returning from injury, but Sasnovich is good enough to trouble anyone in the game when she’s performing at the peak of her powers.

Pliskova may still be basking in the glory of her Pan Pacific title, so back Sasnovich with a start of 4.5 games.

In Tokyo early on Wednesday morning, Alex de Minaur can be considered against Gilles Simon, who recently lifted his second title of 2018 in Metz.
