The early 66-1 bet365 quoted about Vera Zvonareva winning the Tashkent Open was snapped up but punters cannot quibble with 40-1 about a performer who was once ranked world number two.
Zvonareva was introduced to the main-tour betting after qualifying wins this weekend over Anhelina Kalinina and Jasmine Paolini in the Uzbekistan capital.
But the fact that the Russian, 33, has looked so keen on court since making the latest of her comebacks could make this a punt with considerable potential.
Zvonareva won an ITF event in Sharm El Sheikh in July and reached the final in Dalian earlier this month.
She opens against Irina-Camelia Begu and the fourth seed has been struggling for form.
