Take speedy Neuville to realise his potential in Mexico

Belgian ace can atone for early-season crashes

Thierry Neuville led convincingly in snowy Sweden before crashing out

Thierry Neuville has crashed out of commanding leads in the first two events of the World Rally Championship season but the Belgian can make it third-time lucky in Mexico.

Jari-Matti Latvala is an unlikely championship leader after a second-place and a win from the snowbound rallies in Monte Carlo and Sweden.

The formerly crash-prone Finn was left without a drive when Volkswagen pulled out at the end of last season and expectations were modest when he landed a seat with the returning Toyota team.

Latvala won last year in Mexico, making the most of a low position on the startlist in the gravel event.

That could benefit Latvala this time, as well as Northern Ireland's Kris Meeke. Meeke's Citroen team had expected to be championship contenders but have been bitterly disappointing so far.

Reigning champion Sebastien Ogier has made a bright start for Ford with a win and a third place, but the Mexican stages could expose the limitations of the Fiesta.
