Sweden can smell success in new team event
Fast Freddie Lindgren ready to fly
Speedway of Nations
BT Sport 1, 6pm Saturday
Sweden, spearheaded by GP leader Freddie Lindgren, look the obvious alternative to Poland in the inaugural Speedway of Nations event which starts on Saturday night.
The Swedes are represented by Fast Freddie and Antonio Lindback and certainly look a decent each-way punt at 9-1.
The top-seed Poles are the 6-4 jollies, which is fairly understandable since they are the only nation going straight into next weekend’s final, which is also being staged on home shale in Wroclaw. Maciej Janowski and Patryk Dudek will ride for the Poles, so they clearly deserve respect.
The other six countries to take on Poland will qualify from two seven-nation heats, the first of which is in Teterow, Germany. Sweden are in the second semi-final, in Manchester on Tuesday. The top three from each heat go to Wroclaw.
Clearly it’s all about team riding, although Lindgren on his own is a formidable proposition, and they look a great bet to make the top three in Manchester.
