Fergal O'Brien could struggle to overturn the form

German Masters qualifiers
From 10am Tuesday

The first of four days of qualifying for the German Masters takes place at the Barnsley Metrodome and punters should take rising star Sunny Akani to see off Fergal O'Brien in his opening match.

Players must win two rounds to make it to the final stages at the Tempodrom in Berlin and the talented Thai is fancied to move one step closer to booking his place in the German capital.

Akani made the last 16 of the Betway UK Championship where he dumped out O'Brien 6-4 in the opening round before outclassing reliable sorts Michael Holt 6-4 and Barry Hawkins 6-0.

A ruthless Ronnie O'Sullivan ended his dream run in a decider but Akani had plenty of chances to win the match and his cool temperament makes him difficult to dismiss.

The youngster was an opening-round casualty in Glasgow last week but his heroics in York may have taken their toll and he can bounce back against O'Brien, who has lost his last four matches.

Recommendation
S Akani
