Sunday's European preview

More than 70,000 Milan fans packed into San Siro last Saturday to watch their team begin their Serie A title defence against Udinese but the Rossoneri found themselves trailing 1-0 after only 90 seconds.

By the 15th minute, though, Milan led 2-1 and went on to win a chaotic affair 4-2, and they can start the new season with back-to-back victories when they face Atalanta.

Milan took time to settle in their opener but the return of key midfielder Sandro Tonali this weekend should give them more composure in the middle, while the battle for places up top seems to be getting the best out of Ante Rebic and Brahim Diaz.

New signing Charles De Ketelaere also looks a top attacking option on the bench and, having beaten Atalanta home and away last term, Milan should fancy their chances of again overpowering the Bergamo outfit, who picked up only four of their 16 league wins last season at the Atleti Azzurri d'Italia.

Cologne trail in their Europa Conference League playoff with Fehervar but they have made a rock-solid start to the new Bundesliga campaign, beating Schalke and earning a draw away to Leipzig.

And they can avoid defeat away to Eintracht Frankfurt, who were hammered 6-1 by Bayern Munich, lost the Uefa Super Cup 2-0 against Real Madrid and were held to a 1-1 draw by Hertha Berlin in their last three games.

They have been shaky at the back - something not helped by the fact summer signing Jerome Onguene is sidelined - and could be frustrated further by the Billy Goats.
