Strong travellers Aldershot set for more road success at Sutton
Ebbsfleet can pile the misery on relegated Torquay
All games 12.30pm Saturday
This season's National League playoffs have been expanded from four to six teams and the change could contribute to a dramatic final day of action in the regular season with eight promotion-chasing teams bidding to either improve or maintain their positions.
Of the top ten teams only champions Macclesfield and second-placed Tranmere are assured of staying in the same place and any movement among the other teams could have a major impact on the playoff picture.
Both are guaranteed a place in the playoffs but only one of them can claim the coveted third place which ensures immediate qualification for the playoff semi-finals.
That semi-final would be played at home, so there is a lot riding on the match. Sutton have the advantage, knowing a draw would keep them third, but they have been struggling and had gone five games without a victory before last Saturday's 1-0 triumph at Ebbsfleet.
Aldershot have looked stronger during the run-in although they missed a massive opportunity when held 1-1 at home by relegation-threatened Barrow on Tuesday.
The Shots need a win to go straight into the playoff semi-finals but their away record of nine wins, eight draws and five defeats is decent and they look overpriced to get the job done.
There is an incentive to finish fourth or fifth, which secures a home game in the qualifying round, and that will be on the minds of Ebbsfleet before their contest at relegated Torquay.
A defeat for the Fleet could see them drop out of the playoffs altogether while a draw might bring a slip to sixth or seventh and force them to play on the road in the qualifying round.
However, Ebbsfleet have been excellent in recent months, losing one of 13 games, and they should get the win they crave against a Gulls' side destined for the National League South.
