Lindyhopathon: bad name but excellent test for remaining couples

Energetic and fast-paced Lindy Hop won't suit every remaining celebrity

BBC1, 6.50pm Saturday

Ten weeks in and it's time for two dances – on Saturday night the seven remaining couples will not only dance their individual routines, but also compete in a Lindyhopathon, the second worst name in dancing after turkey trot.

Energetic and fast-paced, it won't suit every dancer from the remaining celebrities. The bookmakers fancy former England cricketer Graeme Swann to be eliminated after finding himself in the dance-off two weeks in a row, but both the Lindy hop and his individual dance, the quickstep, will likely play to his strengths as an exuberant, fun-filled performer.

The Lindy Hop – mixing elements of jazz, tap, breakaway and Charleston – and a sassy salsa may not be styles paralympian Lauren Steadman would have chosen given a choice, with her forte seemingly lying in ballroom over Latin. However, Steadman did break the 30 mark for the first time with an action-packed jive.

If the pair face off in the dance-off it will be a close call – Steadman has been more consistent throughout the series, yet her average score of 26.1 is just behind Swann's 26.2, and with the cricketer's Quickstep a closer relation to his top-scoring theatre/jazz routine than Steadman's 34-point Viennese waltz is to the salsa, Swann could just make it another week.

For those who still haven't dipped a toe in the outright winner market, Faye Tozer and Giovanni Pernice are a tempting 10-1 to win outright – Tozer has proved herself a relatable contestant who is sure to score well with many viewers.
