Spain set to make light work of tame Tunisia

Socceroos can rack up another win

Spain boss Julen Lopetegui

Spain v Tunisia
Freesports, 8pm Saturday

Spain slipped two places in the Fifa rankings from eighth to tenth on Thursday but they are among the main contenders for World Cup glory and can show their class with an easy victory over Tunisia in Krasnodar.

With the start of the World Cup looming, both teams will be anxious to avoid injuries.

But Spain are not the sort of side to take friendly matches lightly and plenty of their fringe players will be anxious to impress Julen Lopetegui to strengthen their case for a starting berth against Portugal next Friday.

The Iberians drew 1-1 with Switzerland in Villarreal on Sunday, extending their unbeaten sequence to 19 games since Euro 2016.

In that time they have posted 2-0 victories away to Belgium and France and beaten Argentina 6-1 in Madrid.

They are looking at the Tunisia match as a good chance to prepare for facing another north African side, Morocco, in the group stage.

Tunisia's Fifa ranking dropped from 14th to 21st but they still look overrated in their updated position.

Their squad features eight domestic-based players and lacks individual quality. Winger Wahbi Khazri has scored 12 goals at international level but he is the only player in the group to have reached double figures.

The Carthage Eagles are likely to be outclassed by Spain, who are value to be leading at half-time and full-time.

Australia were impressive 4-0 victors over the Czech Republic in St Polten, Austria, last week and can wrap up their World Cup preparations with a win against Hungary in Budapest.

The Socceroos have been drawn in a tough World Cup group alongside Denmark, France and Peru but their friendly results, including a 0-0 draw with Colombia in March, have been encouraging.

Hungary reached the last 16 at Euro 2016 but lost five games in World Cup qualifying including an embarrassing 1-0 loss away to Andorra.

They have also had some poor results in recent friendlies, losing 2-1 away to Luxembourg in November and 3-2 at home to Kazakhstan in March.

They look like a team in decline and Australia can take advantage.
