Solid Charl Schwartzel can get the better of threeball challengers
Best bet for round two at Quail Hollow
Sky Sports Golf, from 7pm Friday
Former Masters champion Charl Schwartzel has not enjoyed a stellar 2018 but he should still have enough to get the better of Peter Malnati and Matt Every in their second-round threeball at the Wells Fargo Championship on Friday (5.40pm BST).
The South African has claimed just three top-20 finishes since his second at the FedEx St Jude Classic in June and none of them have come in Stateside competition.
However, his one-under-par 71 was solid and there have to be misgivings about the quality of his opposition.
Malnati flourished with a four-under-par 67, but that showing was not characteristic of the form he has shown this season.
The 30-year-old from Indiana has missed the cut in both of his efforts at Quail Hollow and he has made the weekend in just four of his 11 tournaments since the turn of the year.
Just three of his last 15 second rounds have been in the 60s and it would be no surprise if he is unable to maintain his excellent start.
Every makes up the trio and he is another player who has been struggling despite tying for eighth at last month's Houston Open.
He will have to recover from a miserable first-round 79 and it looks as if the 34-year-old from Florida, who has won twice on the US Tour, has run his race for this week.
