Tournament preview

Six of snooker's top performers are joined by two local heroes for the return of the Hong Kong Masters after a two-year hiatus.

Ronnie O’Sullivan, Mark Selby, Judd Trump, Neil Robertson, John Higgins and Mark Williams (who replaces Zhao Xintong) have been handed invitations and the eight-person field is completed by Marco Fu and Ng On-Yee.

The quarter-finals will be played over the best of nine frames, with the semi-finals and final a race to six at the Hong Kong Coliseum.

Entering the recent British Open slipped the mind of a forgetful Robertson, but the Australian looks the each-way play from the weaker half of the draw.

The Thunder from Down Under had been set to get his bid under way against Zhao and Williams could come into this a bit cold.

O'Sullivan is a likely semi-final opponent for 2017 Hong Kong champion Robertson, but the Rocket looked far from fired up when losing his held-over British Open qualifier against Alexander Ursenbacher and Robertson looks to have an excellent chance of at least landing the place part of an each-way wager.
