Day four preview

Former Betfred Masters champion Shaun Murphy produced some sensational long potting to down Mark Williams on Monday, and he is fancied to follow up with a win over defending champion Stuart Bingham in their clash on Thursday night.

Both players have struggled for form this season, but Murphy looked back to his best from distance against Williams. His long potting is the main weapon in his arsenal and enables him to carve out scoring opportunities.

Such was Williams' frustration on Monday night, that at one stage he rolled into the pack when breaking off to prevent Murphy thundering in yet another long pot.

Bingham was far from convincing in his opener against Thailand's Thepchaiya Un-Nooh. The world number 12 offered up plenty of chances on Monday which his opponent squandered.

The Essex potter was 5-1 up at one stage but the scoreline could have easily been the other way around had Un-Nooh been more composed and clinical when at the table.

Murphy is a former world champion and multiple event winner so he has the experience to ensure he does not wilt if chances are presented to him.

Judd Trump and Jack Lisowski withdrawing from this event opened up the draw for Crucible finalist Kyren Wilson, who is fancied to cruise past Dave Gilbert on Thursday afternoon.

Gilbert has struggled since reaching the semi-finals of this tournament last year, while Wilson continues to improve and climb the rankings.

The current world number five is a big runner this week and fancied to book his place into the semi-finals with a bit in hand covering the handicap.
