We can never be sure about how the Crucible tables will play until we see them on the opening day of the Betfred World Championship, but for an interest on the tournament specials it could pay punters to back 83 or more century breaks with the sponsors.

That mark has been beaten in three of the last four years in the Sheffield marathon and with this year's qualifiers looking potentially the best batch ever to feature at the Crucible, in theory we should be in line for a high-class competition.

True, the mark of 83 has been attained on only one other occasion, in 2009 when John Higgins weighed in with 11 tons on the way to taking the title.

But while 2013 and 2014 saw tallies in the 50s before the recent move up to 80s and 2017 made up at 74, the quality of snooker produced is getting better and better and hopes should probably be high when talented performers Luo Honghao and James Cahill are at or near the bottom of the oddsmakers' outright lists.

Recommendation
83 or more century breaks
