World Snooker Championship final predictions

Zhao Xintong vs Mark Williams predictions

Match starts 1pm

Zhao Xintong and Mark Williams will meet in this year's World Snooker Championship final at the Crucible and history will be made whoever ends up lifting the trophy.

Zhao is bidding to become not only the first Chinese player to claim the sport's top prize, but also the first amateur to do so in the Crucible era, as well as only the third qualifier after Terry Griffiths and Shaun Murphy.

At 50, Williams is already the oldest player to reach the World Championship final and he is now eyeing a fourth title in Sheffield, following on from his successes in 2000, 2003 and 2018.

The betting makes Zhao the slight favourite at a general 8-11, with Williams 11-10, but this is a difficult match to call and it may instead be worth looking at the century markets given the break-building form both players showed during their semi-final victories.

In taking apart seven-time Crucible champion Ronnie O'Sullivan 17-7, Zhao not only produced three century breaks, but also had a further 12 scores of 50 or above.

Williams hit four three-figure breaks in seeing off Judd Trump, including a knock of 123 in the final frame, and only the world number one has recorded more centuries than him at the Crucible this year.

The nature of this best-of-35 frames contest means both players should have time to settle into their rhythm and shake off any nerves. Once they do, both could start scoring heavily so do not be surprised if they end up combining for seven or more centuries in the match.
