World Snooker Championship predictions
Shaun Murphy v Daniel Wells predictions
Match starts 10am
There are four cracking first-round matches getting underway at the World Championship on Tuesday and they have delivered three worthwhile wagers.
Daniel Wells takes on Shaun Murphy in his first appearance at the Sheffield showpiece and the Welshman's prospects may have been underrated.
The 36-year-old has made two ranking event semi finals in the last three years, the latest of which came in this term’s Xi’an Grand Prix.
Those achievements pale in comparison to Shaun Murphy’s record but Sheffield hasn’t been a happy hunting ground for the Magician.
The former world champion has lost in the first round in five of his last nine visits to the Crucible and that includes defeats to Anthony McGill, Jamie Jones, Noppon Saengkham and Si Jiahui.
Wells looks capable of digging deep in receipt of a 4.5-frame start.
Zhang Anda v Pang Junxu predictions
Match starts 10am
Zhang Anda enjoyed a breakthrough campaign last season, winning the International Championship and reaching the final of the Players Championship and English Open.
This term hasn’t yielded the same eye-catching results, but there hasn’t been a huge drop off in his level of performance and he can secure his first victory at the Crucible.
Pang Junxu is a promising performer but the 25-year-old failed to qualify for the Players Championship and Tour Champion and he was beaten 4-0 by Wu Yize in his most recent ranking event contest.
Ronnie O'Sullivan v Ali Carter predictions
Match starts 2.30pm
Ronnie O’Sullivan was a 7-1 shot to claim an incredible eighth world title at the start of the Sheffield showpiece and those odds may well be significantly revised should the Rocket blast past Ali Carter in round one.
The enigmatic O'Sullivan hasn’t played a competitive match since he reached the semi-finals of December’s Riyadh Season Snooker Championship. However, he landed five major titles last term, including the Masters, and it’s likely the Rocket will be ready for take-off this afternoon.
Carter is a tenacious performer but he trails O’Sullivan 23-3 in their head-to-head meetings and that’s an indication of the gap in class between the pair.
Judd Trump v Zhou Yuelong predictions
Match starts 7pm
Judd Trump will have eyes on a second World Championship crown and shouldn’t have too many issues getting past Zhou Yuelong. The prices look about right for this contest.
