Ding Junhui isn’t always the most reliable punting proposition but the deeper he goes in an event the more dangerous he becomes and he can book his place in the last 16 of the Welsh Open with a convincing victory over Jimmy Robertson.

Ding showed his ability was still intact when springing a surprise at the Betway UK Championship in December and earlier wins over Marco Fu (4-2) and Ricky Walden (4-1) suggest he is eager to impress in Cardiff.

The Star of the East remains one of the game’s finest breakbuilders and should readily brush aside Robertson, who has lost each of their three previous meetings.
