English Open preview

Thepchaiya Un-Nooh is renowned for his speed around the table but the talented Thai has had the recent results to back up his flashy brilliance.

Last time out Un-Nooh reached the semi-finals of the Scottish Open, claiming the scalps of Mark Allen, Jamie Jones and Judd Trump before bumping into eventual champion Gary Wilson.

He built on that strong showing in his English Open qualifier on Monday, brushing aside 2015 world champion Stuart Bingham 4-1 capping off his impressive win with a superb break of 102.

Uh-Nooh faces Chinese cueman Tian Penfei in the first round proper, and on current form it is a match he ought to win.

Muhammed Asif is more accomplished than his world ranking of 119 suggests and he can make Barry Hawkins pull out all the stops.

Asif’s recent performances have been full of promise - the pick of them being an impressive 6-2 win over Aaron Hill in a UK Championship qualifier - while Hawkins is capable of underperforming.

Hawkins has suffered shock defeats to Steven Hallworth, Michael White and Li Hang already this season, suggesting Asif can win at least two frames.
