Preview

Talented teenager Chang Bingyu is part of an armada of Chinese stars who have headed to York for the UK Championship and his journey could pay off with a first-round victory over Matthew Selt.

The tournament should bring back happy memories for the 19-year-old, who has based himself in Sheffield for the past year.

Twelve months ago – albeit in Milton Keynes rather than the tournament's spiritual home of the York Barbican – Chang reached the last 32 courtesy of wins over Sam Craigie and ninth seed Mark Allen. He was then pipped 6-5 by compatriot Zhou Yuelong in a thriller in the third round.

He continues to make big strides having reached the second stage of the Championship League and he also impressed in qualifying for the German Masters last month, compiling a 111 break and a 50-run in a 5-1 defeat to Mark Williams.

Selt, who also reached the second stage of the Championship League, is the more seasoned pro with a decent pedigree and he did reach round three of the British Open.

However, he fell at the first hurdle in both the Northern Ireland and English Opens and looks worth taking on.
