Best-of-seven-frame matches do not take much winning and it could be the turn of Anthony McGill to show better form in his homeland against Ryan Day on day two of the Scottish Open.

Day should be pleased with his work in the Betway UK Championship last week, where he reached the semi-finals to claim a spot in the Masters next month.

The experience could give him a boost, but McGill is plenty good enough to silence Day if he's on song in Glasgow.

The oddsmakers reckon Day deserves to be a slight favourite, but while he is enjoying the best season of his career to date the Welshman could be a little jaded after a number of mentally draining encounters in York.

McGill has not done much in recent weeks, but he has fared well enough in his homeland before to think that he could thwart Day.

Day's compatriot Jak Jones, though inexperienced, is no mug and with Ding Junhui having been below par in recent weeks the Chinese number one could be a little on the short side at 1-12.

Another Welsh ace, Matthew Stevens, has been struggling with his game and may not be safe from an early bath against Hammad Miah, who hit a decent patch of form leading up to the Betfred World Championship last season.

UK champion Ronnie O'Sullivan opens with a clash against Michael Georgiou and while the outsider is improving, he will do well to end the Rocket's interest at this early stage.

Recommendation
A McGill
