Preview

John Higgins blew away old rival Ronnie O’Sullivan 6-1 in the quarter-finals of the Champion of Champions in Bolton but the Wizard of Wishaw may struggle to conjure a repeat performance against rising star Yan Bingtao.

Chinese prodigy Yan has already knocked out two seeds and will be looking for his third scalp in a row against the decorated Scot, who he beat 10-8 in January's Masters final to win his first Triple Crown event.

Yan defeated Sean Murphy 4-1 in his opening match before overcoming world number one Mark Selby 6-3 in the quarter-finals to set up Saturday's last-four meeting with Higgins.

Since clashing in the Masters final, Higgins has lost two ranking finals and suggested after the second of those defeats - at the English Open - that he may no longer have what it takes to beat the very best.

Opponent Yan was the world amateur champion at just 14 and has all the ingredients to go to the top of the sport.

Tipped recently by Judd Trump as the player most likely to be snooker's next dominant force, the Chinese star is fancied to set up a potential final showdown with the Juddernaut, who faces Kyren Wilson in Friday's semi-final.
