Day three preview

Snooker punters have had it harder since the majority of matches dropped from the best of nine frames to best of seven and that's the order in the afternoon group matches in the Champion of Champions in Milton Keynes.

Group Four favourites Mark Selby and Kyren Wilson should be able make their superior ranking tell against opponents Luca Brecel and Stephen Maguire, but their win prices are on the short side for most punters and that means backers may want to get involved in handicap betting, which carries greater risk.

Handily, Wilson has a decent record in the Champion of Champions and the newly-crowned Championship League hero should still have enough to continue the good work against Stephen Maguire.

Asking Wilson to successfully concede a handicap start of 1.5 frames, however, means he needs to win at least two-thirds of the frames contested. That's no small order, especially against a player of the quality of Maguire, who is a past master at producing good performances on the back of form lulls.

That tough request explains why punters are getting odds-against quotes about Wilson triumphing in four, five or six frames, but it still looks the way to go.

Brecel, too, is no stranger to bouncing back to somewhere near his best after a quiet spell, but punters thinking of getting with Selby giving up 1.5 frames can take confidence from the fact that the Jester from Leicester has been pretty much bang on top of his game of late.
