Preview

John Higgins thumped Ding Junhui 4-1 when they met in the English Open two weeks ago and can dot up again in a repeat of that tie in the Champion of Champions in Bolton.

Higgins is a 4-7 shot to take care of Ding, a player he has beaten four times in their last six meetings.

The most recent was earlier this month in the last 16 of the English Open where the Scot produced a trio of 50 breaks plus a 103 in a match where his Chinese opponent scored just 98 points in total.

Higgins looks in pretty good nick having gone on to reach the final in Milton Keynes just a few weeks after also reaching the final of the Northern Ireland Open. He lost both finals 9-8 – to Mark Allen in Belfast and Neil Robertson in Milton Keynes – having led 8-6 on each occasion.

While the 46-year-old four-time world champion is demonstrably in good form we haven't seen a lot of Ding, who skipped Northern Ireland.

The other Group Three showdown features Ronnie O'Sullivan, the world number three and three-time winner of the event, against Stuart Bingham, now down at 13 in the rankings. On current form The Rocket should win this well.
