Preview

The first batch of Betfred World Championship final-round qualifiers have thrown up many pairings which make it difficult for punters to bet with confidence, although it’s probably fair to say that after lockdown the more stoic players have tended to prosper in the earlier outings.

The stakes and match length rise for round four. It’s up to a best-of-19-frames format but while that should get backers’ pulses racing, patience could be watchword on the penultimate day of action from Sheffield’s English Institute of Sport.

Eden Sharav has shown before that he can be a seriously determined operator when he gets on top of his game and the Scot could be worth a handicap interest with a start of 3.5 frames for his clash with Noppon Saengkham.

Thai Saengkham has been installed a warm favourite to clinch a trip to the Crucible, but Sharav may not go down without a fight in a clash which could be closer than the oddsmakers think.

Rob Milkins ended Jimmy White's hopes, but Ashley Carty could pose a different kind of threat to the Gloucester veteran. Milkins is a short price to triumph but Carty could be worth a modest bet with a pull of 3.5 frames.
