Betfred World Championship qualifiers | day two
From 10am Thursday

The opening phase of the Betfred World Championship qualifiers is a difficult punting proposition with heavily odds-on favourites the order of the day, but Eden Sharav could represent a touch of value against David Lilley.

Sharav is enjoying his best ever season on tour and a semi-final berth in the Northern Ireland Open, as well as a fourth round appearance in the English equivalent, show things are starting to click for the Scot.

A best-of-19 contest evidently requires more but Sharav wasn’t disgraced in last season’s qualifiers, falling 10-7 at the first hurdle to Elliott Slessor, and he is a more complete player now.

In 2017, he toppled Jamie Cope 10-5 in his curtain-raiser before finding Michael Holt too streetwise and he should have learnt plenty from those experiences.

Lilley, although talented when on song, is an amateur and his results this season suggest he could struggle to silence Sharav.

Talented Chinese youngster Zhou Yuelong is a 1-5 poke to overcome Robin Hull, but their clash could be closer than the odds imply.

Hull is an experienced operator, who has made the World Championship main draw on three occasions, while Yuelong is far from the finished article and can still make costly mistakes.

Yuelong's scoring prowess should see him over the line but he has lost both of his previous meetings with Hull and a tight affair may be in store.
