Slough's strong finish tees them up for playoff glory

Initial foes Kettering have lost two of their last three

Weymouth finished fifth in the Southern Premier this season

Southern Premier playoffs
Start 7.45pm Wednesday

The Southern Premier playoff contenders are extremely well-matched with just three points separating second-placed King's Lynn from fifth-placed Weymouth.

King's Lynn are the favourites, having accumulated 100 points, but third-placed Slough, who host fourth-placed Kettering in the semi-finals, look better value.

Slough had a strong finish to the season, taking 28 points from their last ten games, and should be approaching the playoffs with confidence.

The Rebels came to the attention of a wider audience in December when they lost 4-0 at home to Rochdale in a televised FA Cup second-round tie.

Slough's cup run was a money-spinner but also a distraction as the Berkshire side won only one of their six league games either side of the Rochdale clash.

However, they got back to their best during the run-in and look in better shape than Kettering, who lost two of their final three games.

King's Lynn's semi-final with Weymouth looks too close to call but whoever wins could struggle in a possible final against Slough.
