Milan v Juventus

Milan will feel hard done by after late refereeing controversy cost them in defeat to Spezia last time out but they will need to pick themselves up ahead of a defining period in Stefano Pioli's tenure.

With the score 1-1, Milan thought they had won that game when Junior Messias fired into the top corner only for the referee to have blown his whistle when the ball was travelling goalwards and the goal was not given.

They went on to lose the game after a 96th-minute Spezia winner, meaning they have won only two of their last six games.

After Sunday's clash with Juventus, they face Inter in Serie A and Lazio in the Coppa Italia, so avoiding defeat at the San Siro will be crucial to morale.

Juve, meanwhile, are still in the hunt for a top-four berth and with so much riding on this game, it could be a cagey affair. The sides shared the spoils back in September and another stalemate could be on the cards in Milan.

Rayo Vallecano v Athletic Bilbao

Victory over Girona last week sent Rayo Vallecano through to the quarter-finals of the Copa del Rey, but they are also going well in La Liga with the Champions League places still within reach.

Having won four of their last six matches, Vallecano could be a decent bet to see off Bilbao, who were involved in a pulsating cup clash with Barcelona on Thursday and have already played six times in January.

They could be fatigued and are worth opposing.

Clermont v Rennes

Clermont were riding high in the opening weeks of the Ligue 1 season but that seems like a long time ago now.

A run of eight defeats in 11 matches has left the club staring down the barrel of relegation, and the absence of leading scorer Mohamed Bayo, who is at the Africa Cup of Nations, has done them no favours.

Rennes, in contrast, reinvigorated their bid for a top-four spot by thrashing Bordeaux 6-0 last time out. Their superior range of attacking options should give them the edge and they are worth a bet at a shade of odds-on.
