Seasoned Seppi fancied to weather early Florida storm

Shower breaks may not save limited Moldovan Albot

There were plenty of surprises on day one of the Miami Open women’s singles on Tuesday and punters may be wise to adopt a cautious stance at a forecast wet and windy Crandon Park on Thursday.

For an interest, Andreas Seppi could be worth backing to defeat Radu Albot.

Seppi’s game looked in good order in the Australian Open in January, when he ousted Nick Kyrgios on the way to a narrow last-16 loss to Stan Wawrinka, and his Melbourne Park effort suggests he could be worth following in the coming months.

Albot is a limited performer who has won only one main-tour main-draw match this year, against lowly Alexandar Lazarov. Bad weather could aid the Moldovan’s cause, but if the match is played during a break in the showers, Seppi should show his class and is worth supporting.

Diego Schwartzman has been well backed to see off Karen Khachanov. The Argentinian could progress but is no certainty to do so against the 20-year-old Russian who, like his opponent, possesses considerable potential.

In the women’s action, Naomi Osaka could cause problems for Simona Halep, but reports suggest the Romanian third seed is on good terms with her game in the lead-up to the tournament.
