Preview

The Scottish season kicks off with the group stage of the League Cup and after St Johnstone's cup double last term there will be renewed optimism beyond Glasgow's big two sides.

Kilmarnock will be playing Championship football this season after a disastrous campaign ended with defeat to Dundee in the relegation playoff. Tommy Wright took over midway through the season and he was unable to galvanise a dejected and shot-shy squad.

However, Killie have been busy in the summer and have beefed up their squad with plenty of new additions. Keeper Sam Walker has joined the club from Reading, while Euan Murray and Scott Robinson are decent additions at this level.

Wright is likely to have his troops well drilled defensively and he will no doubt be looking for a positive start after last season's disappointment. There's no huge price on offer this weekend, given Kilmarnock travel to fifth-tier side East Kilbride, but they should be far too strong.

Hearts have made some interesting signings ready for their return to the Premiership and they shouldn't have any problems at Peterhead.

Raith enjoyed an excellent Championship campaign last term and they boast far too much firepower for Cowdenbeath. A treble of those three sides works out at a tasty looking 13-10.
