Score could mount as pressure is off for Wakefield and Wigan

Semi-final out of Wigan's reach

Super League Super 8s
Sky Sports Arena, 3.15pm Saturday

What could have been a crucial playoff decider in this final Super 8s encounter turned into a dead rubber overnight as Hull's victory at Castleford put a semi-final spot all but beyond Wigan's reach.

Wakefield's hopes of making the final four disappeared when St Helens won at Salford on Thursday, but now neither team has anything to play for the stage looks set for an open, high-scoring contest.

Wigan need to win by 90 points to overtake fourth-placed St Helens, and have eased slightly from 1-2 favourites to 4-7 in places now that their incentive has been removed. Teams will always want to go out on a high, but it's hard to see how they will play with the same level of intensity given the near-impossibility of their task.

The Qualifiers

The Warriors ground out a 16-10 victory at Belle Vue in April, but the return fixture the following month hit the scoring heights with a 42-30 win for Trinity.

We could be in for something similar today in a high-scoring end-of-season game. Bet365 quote their points line at 54.5 and the wise move has to be to go for the overs.
