Saturday's European preview

Having been rewarded for his efforts with a bumper five-year contract last month, Lens manager Franck Haise has his team in a great position in Ligue 1 and they can continue their superb start with a victory over basement boys Angers on Saturday.

Since taking charge in early 2020, Haise has led Lens from Ligue 2 to the upper echelons of France's top division and they go into the weekend's action as Paris Saint-Germain's closest title competitors, trailing them by only five points.

In-form striker Lois Openda showed his class with a hat-trick in the 3-0 win over Toulouse last time out but the team have also been rock solid at the back, keeping six clean sheets in seven matches.

Angers are unlikely to put up much of a fight, having lost five of their seven matches at their Stade Raymond Kopa home, and Lens look value to win this one at 7-10.

Napoli suffered their first defeat of the season on Tuesday, losing 2-0 away to Liverpool, but they are unlikely to be bogged down by that result and can respond with victory over fellow highflyers Atalanta in Serie A.

The club from Naples sit top of Serie A with ten wins and two draws from their 12 matches and Atalanta have been their closest challengers but the five point gap between the sides could widen to eight this weekend.

Atalanta have looked sharp in the league this season - Gian Piero Gasperini's focus has been on enhancing their defensive efforts and they have conceded only eight goals in 12 games - but Napoli look on another level and have the attacking options to pry open the club from Bergamo.

Victor Osimhen, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Giacomo Raspadori are among those who have shown immense hunger this season and Napoli are unlikely to rest on their laurels in such a big contest.

Eintracht Frankfurt booked their spot in the last 16 of the Champions League for the very first time with a 2-1 triumph over Sporting Lisbon on Tuesday and they can make it back-to-back wins when they turn their attention to the Bundesliga on Saturday.

The Eagles possess some of the Bundesliga's most exciting attacking players from Jesper Lindstrom to Daichi Kamada and had chalked up four wins on the spin prior to last Saturday's unfortunate 2-1 defeat to Borussia Dortmund.

They can get the better of Augsburg, who have been knocked closer to the drop zone after a five-game winless run in all competitions.
