Saturday's European preview

Juventus's Serie A clash with Roma is the headline act on Saturday's European coupon as Paulo Dybala heads back to the Allianz Stadium for the first time since making a summer move to the Stadio Olimpico.

The Argentinian spent seven seasons at Juve, winning five Serie A titles, and his return adds further intrigue to what was already likely to be an emotionally-charged affair, particularly with Massimiliano Allegri and Jose Mourinho in the opposing dugouts.

These teams played out a thrilling contest when they last met in January, Juve recovering from 3-1 down to win 4-3 at the Olimpico, but even with heightened emotional aspects to consider, a repeat of that kind of scoreline looks unlikely.

Juventus's home matches last season were often drab affairs - they scored the fewest home goals of any team in Serie A's top half - and while they opened the season with a 3-0 win at home to Sassuolo, the Turin outfit mustered just four shots on target, one of which came from the penalty spot. Monday's goalless stalemate with Sampdoria was also far from encouraging for the Old Lady.

Roma have been victorious in both of their opening matches, but 1-0 wins over Salernitana and promoted Cremonese, in which Bryan Cristante and Chris Smalling proved unlikely sources of goals, were far from swashbuckling. Expect this to be a low-scoring contest.

In La Liga, Rayo Vallecano are taken to claim maximum points when they welcome Mallorca to the Vallecas.

Rayo have made an excellent start to the new season, holding Barcelona to a draw at Camp Nou and heading back to Catalonia to beat Espanyol 2-0 the following week, which should make for a carnival atmosphere in their first home fixture of the season.

The hosts won eight of their first nine home games of the 2021-22 campaign, and while their form tailed off after that, Andoni Iraola's men should fancy their chances against a travel-sick Mallorca team who picked up just 12 of their 39 points on the road last term.

Lens finished the 2021-22 Ligue 1 season on an eight-match unbeaten run and have picked up where they left off by claiming seven points from a possible nine.

The Blood and Gold, who defeated Monaco 4-1 last weekend, make plenty of appeal in the draw-no-bet market when they host Rennes at the Stade Bollaert-Delelis.

The visitors earned their first victory of the 2022-23 campaign by beating Ajaccio last weekend but they have failed to defeat Lens in any of the previous four meetings between the sides and their home form was vastly superior to their record on the road last term.
