Real Betis are one of a handful of La Liga clubs struggling to register their new signings this summer but that did not dampen the spirit of the Andalusians in their league opener, which they won 3-0 against Elche on Monday night.

Although aided by a sending-off in the first half, Manuel Pellegrini's Betis impressed a packed Benito Villamarin with their swift passing moves and last term's surprise top scorer Juanmi made his mark with a brace.

With rivals Sevilla looking weaker than last term, Betis will know they have a great shot of making the Champions League places and they can follow their opening win with victory against Mallorca.

Mallorca opened with a 0-0 draw at Athletic Bilbao but allowed their opponents 23 shots and Betis, who lost only four times on the road in the league last term, are worth chancing in the draw-no-bet market.

A 15th-minute red card for Youssouf Fofana put Monaco on the back foot in their last match against Rennes but the principality club still picked up a point and have shown signs of promise this campaign.

Monaco deserved to progress from their Champions League qualifying tie with PSV and opened their Ligue 1 season with victory over Strasbourg.

With Wissam Ben Yedder and Breel Embolo up top, they carry a greater attacking threat than upcoming opponents Lens, who failed to find a way past new boys Ajaccio last time out and are worth opposing at the Stade Louis II.

Freiburg were in control of their most recent Bundesliga fixture against Borussia Dortmund last Friday night, leading until the 77th minute when a rare error from goalkeeper Mark Flekken allowed Die Schwarzgelben back into the contest.

The shot-stopper struggled to deal with a distance strike from Jamie Bynoe-Gittens and that turned the match on its head, with Dortmund prevailing 3-1.

Freiburg deserved at least a point from that contest and can pick themselves up by winning at Stuttgart.

Only Bayern Munich, Bayer Leverkusen and Dortmund picked up more points on the road than Freiburg in last term's Bundesliga and the Black Forest side destroyed Augsburg 4-0 in their first away contest of this season.

Stuttgart held Leipzig in their first home game of the season but allowed their opponents 28 shots, nine of which were on target, and lost home and away to Freiburg last term.
