Match preview

Gloucester finished second-bottom in the Premiership last season but were always playing catch-up after just one win in their first ten matches.

They have built on their encouraging end to the last campaign to reach the playoff places and look a good bet to keep up their strong run with victory at Newcastle.

After defeats in their opening two matches, Gloucester have lost just two of their subsequent ten games – to champions Harlequins and last season's table-toppers Exeter, each by just three points.

Since that defeat to Quins at the start of the year, the Cherry & Whites have pipped highflying Saracens by a point and last week ran up 68 points against an admittedly poor Perpignan side.

They will be without the injured Jonny May and England centre Mark Atkinson for the trip to Newcastle but forward power has been their key strength this season and should serve them well against the Falcons.

Newcastle haven't won in the Premiership since the beginning of November and have shipped 15 tries, and more than 100 points, in their last three outings.

*Due to adverse weather conditions, the kick off has moved from 3pm to 7pm*
