Wales fans are used to the rollercoaster ride of following their team, and things hit a new low with a 13-12 defeat to tier-two Georgia last week.

But they are also accustomed to witnessing strong fightbacks and displays of true courage and resolve when the chips are down.

And in their final autumn international they take on an Australia side not only facing a similar low point, but missing virtually an entire squad of frontline players.

Under-fire Wallabies coach Dave Rennie has not been afraid to mix and match his line-up this autumn but he has also had his hand forced by a rash of injuries.

Captain Michael Hooper and scrum-half Nic White are among those to miss out on this final outing of the year, while fly-half Bernard Foley is also unavailable and Rennie has chosen to give a first start at number ten to Ben Donaldson.

Wales opened their autumn campaign with a heavy defeat to New Zealand but showed their fighting nature in a victory over Argentina next time out before the Georgia defeat.

Australia enjoyed a winning start, albeit by a single point, in Scotland but then suffered defeats to France, Italy and last week Ireland, and although all were narrow reverses, this is a fifth successive Test and their squad is now stretched thin.

Matches between these teams are often played at a high tempo and with plenty of scoring - last year Wales won 29-28 in Cardiff while the 2019 Rugby World Cup pool match between the two finished with a 29-25 success for the Welsh.

But the Wallabies may struggle to keep up that kind of pace given their tough run they are on and Wales look worth backing to edge it.
